I've got large steady hands so I could shoot down to 1/50-60 with this lens ( I'm a excellent pistol and rifle marksman former USMC ). zoom with a focal range of 70-200mm is an excellent complement to a 24-70mm standard zoom on an FX body.

Photographing mountains is an especially good use of this lens' focal lengths and it is so easy to take great telephoto landscape images that it feels (slightly) like cheating. It is an ideal choice for photographing many different subjects; birds, wild animals, airplanes, motorsports, and even portraits. As always, vignetting affects wide open aperture corner brightness and contrast and that explains a primary difference seen in the f/4 results. Matching the optical characteristics of the lens, this function performs in-camera corrections of peripheral illumination, chromatic aberrations, distortion, and more, to further enhance image quality.

I wish (like a previous poster) that I could trade this version in for the new one with better close focus, but oh well. I use AI-Servo (continuous) focusing mode for shooting sports, but sometimes like to shoot a focus-and-recompose images such as a portraits during the event. Its design also ensures compatibility with the Arca Swiss system, although this foot can't be removed from the lens, only rotated out of the way. The high-speed AF, thanks to the HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) with an updated algorithm, captures instantaneous photography movement. Compatibility with the Sigma USB Dock is risk reducing as Sigma can release firmware updates for dock-compatible lenses. aperture mandatory (and those hiking to remote landscape destinations may not appreciate the weight that accompanies an f/2. Sharpness and contrast are excellent, even when shooting wide-open, throughout the entire zoom range.

I've covered cameras at PCMag for the past 10 years, which has given me a front row seat for the DSLR to mirrorless transition, the smartphone camera revolution, and the mainstream adoption of drones for aerial imaging. Barrel distortion at 70mm is barely noticeable, transitioning quickly into negligible pincushion distortion from 100mm upwards. magnifications of the original focal length while retaining the original minimum focus distance, translating to a 1. Next up, there’s an autofocus range limiter switch that, by default, cuts out the short range from 1.This is one of those great lens values that comes along and makes you re-think the amount of money you've sunk into "L" glass.
