About this deal

Whilst the NA2+ shares the same screen size and other characteristics as the Tab Ultra series, it still has its place in the market because they are designed with very different use cases in mind. It's a simpler tablet that can't compete when it comes to app support but is still rich with features, and ultimately, feels a bit more refined from a software point of view than Onyx's E Ink alternatives.

Turn on the backlight, and this time goes down significantly, but you can still expect a solid few days of regular use from the backlit Note Air 2 Plus. There’s no slot for earphones, and although you can connect them up via USB-C, the Note Air 2 enlists Bluetooth 5. But with all the other options available for file transfers and integration with other devices, there is, in my opinion, no need for a dedicated app.

By its nature, though, an e-ink tablet isn’t going to be used for rich content like video, so 64GB goes a long way when used for documents and audio files. I’m a fan of the Note Air 2 Plus, with it proving ideal for anyone in the market for a solid e-reader that can also be used for some basic browsing. The display of third-party trademarks and trade names on this site does not necessarily indicate any affiliation or the endorsement of PCMag. But can Onyx hold its own with its slender E Ink slate, or does the recent flurry of competition put the once E Ink pioneer on the back foot?

The Note Air 2’s significantly larger screen size comes with a super-slim design to keep the weight down.

There’s some heft to the device, the Note Air 2 Plus weighing in at 445g, although I found it comfortably to hold in one hand. I spoke to Onyx about this issue and I'm confident it is going to fix this lag with a software update that extends the buffer.

It is light enough to comfortably carry around one-handed and is fairly thin (although not as thin as the reMarkable 2). As someone who struggles to look at screens for too long a period, it was never glaring and ideal to use in darker environments. So ein analoges Notizbuch lässt sich nicht so leicht umsortieren und wenn es verloren geht, sind auch alle Notizen weg. I did download YouTube, although the Note Air 2 Plus’s refresh rate wasn’t good enough to run fast-paced video content, which made me question why it was supported at all.To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

After all, running Android apps like Gmail, there’s a good chance you’ll want your tab to have the very latest security updates, and my Note Air 2 Plus didn’t seem to at the time of writing. Solid and sleek, they’re the most striking qualities the Note Air 2 Plus hit home when I first got my mitts on it. Dual-color reading frontlights, Andriod11, Qualcomm 662 processor, G-Sensor, 4GB RAM+64GB ROM, all configurations are available, it can be regarded as a cost-effective choice for a 10. It may use the same E Ink technology made famous on the Kindle, but the Note Air 2 is all about productivity. Positioned on the left side, when stowed in a folio case, you can’t charge the tab up when protected. It won't playback movies, it isn't a powerful gaming slate, and it won't even be particularly good for fancy digital drawing – after all, it's got a monochrome screen, so no colours, just shades of grey. That includes apps such as Kindle and Kobo, so you can still purchase ebooks as you would on one of those service devices and read them perfectly well on the Note Air 2. I'm happy to say the tablet runs Kindle, Kobo, Libby, Nook, several comics readers, and its own PDF reader just fine; you can even split the screen between two apps if you want, for example, to take notes while reading a book.
