Consequently, Dan’s aggression and annoyance is taken out on the vulnerable target in his year group: Alex. I had to wait ages to borrow it from the school library as it was always on loan, so I guess other children think it's good too.

Books offer children their own little private space, away from the influences of friends, school and TV.Other than that, I would recommend this book to everyone because the characters were imperfectly perfect, the story was precious and I absolutely adored it. This not only progresses the plot, but also allows us to see every situation that arises from the protagonist and antagonist viewpoints.

I won't go into too much depth here, but there were several occasions where Alex could have stepped in to help someone else from the bullying, but because you were inside Alex's head, you really got the sense of how it isn't that easy. Nothing has been the same since his big brother left, and he's taking it out on the nearest and weakest target: Alex. It's like everyone that goes to this school has their head in the sand about kids' behavior and it frustrates me to no end. I thought this book was meaningful and important whilst still just being a great read, and what more could you really ask for than that?

On all the things that could go wrong, the Mississauga, Ontario, singer, who is now 19, tells a contemporary coming-of-age story that just about anyone can relate to—full of blurry parties, dirty rumors, near-empty gas tanks, and truly ruinous breakups. It is so hard to imagine what life must be like for Alex, and I think it is very well portrayed in the book.In Dan’s case, the volcano erupts whereas Alex’s keeps bubbling, bubbling, bubbling, but both have very uncomfortable rides. One thing I really liked about this book was how it portrayed the bullying, and how one can feel like their trapped. You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot! I was a little worried going into it as I really enjoyed We Used to Be Kings by Stewart Foster, which I believe is an adult book, and was worried that maybe I wouldn't enjoy this one as much.

If you are a bully and your best friend was also a bully, it does not take a "weird" (in their opinions, not mine) kid to stop the bullying. I wanted to like this book like others did but instead I wound up getting angrier and angrier that this evil girl and her cronies are picking on these kids and NO ONE DOES ANYTHING. It could help people understand exactly why Alex is so unusual and also why Dan is so mean a lot of the time.A thoroughly enjoyable read for readers aged 9-13 who love to read exciting stories about real life issues.
