While the support is minimal, and I technically only felt it when walking, it’s there. The design flies in the face of the original Topo designs, where barefoot was king, so why the change?

We feel like the word "natural" best describes the Altra Escalante 3's performance. It is low to the ground and is not overly soft. There is nothing extra about it. The Altra Ego foam midsole has a balance of cushion and responsiveness that creates a pleasantly efficient ride, which is an attractive update from the 2.0. The bounce and flex of the midsole help these lightweight trainers deliver comfort that is a joy to run in, especially at uptempo paces. The 2.0 also faced criticism for its toe box. The 2.5 toe box is wider and slightly taller, providing more room and comfort.
