She never would have met James, the boy with the questionable past and the even fuzzier future, who tells her he once wanted to kiss her. Long enough for you to forget who Gabrielle Zevin is, or why you signed up for this in the first place. I loved the banter between Naomi and her best friend, Will; Zevin peppers their conversations with charm and flavor without ever trying too hard.

As discussed in the following section, “Stages of Literary Appreciation,” reading is similar to a journey where what you experience along the way is often as important as what you experience at your final destination. The two have to run an errand, and they flip a coin to see who has to go and retrieve the item they need. Naomi ultimately becomes fed-up with her fake life, and decides to make the dramatic decision to cut her own hair. Her first novel, Elsewhere, was published in 2005, and received a 2006 Quill Award, among other honors. It's not a masterpiece, but it is very enjoyable and you will not waste your time watching it unless you watch it with the wrong frame of mind. Naomi Porter, high school junior, yearbook editor, and superstar tennis player, falls down the front steps of her high school and, as if falling in a public place isn’t mortifying enough, hits her head and loses the past four years of her memory. The fatal accident sent her on a journey to Elsewhere, a place where people age backward until they become babies again and are sent back to Earth to begin a new life.

Its well written teenage fiction and the title is sure to grab the attention of teenagers everywhere.James is a boy with a troubled past and new to her high school and just happened to be there when Naomi fell. The doctors can't explain why Naomi has such long-term amnesia, but it appears that her last memories are of the sixth grade. After hitting her head on the steps after school, she wakes up in an ambulance, more aware of the pain than what actually happened. Even though Naomi was confused and slightly off-kilter when it came to her emotions, as an audience we’re not annoyed by this because it’s understandable in her condition, whereas in other young adult books I will not refrain from shouting at the protagonist until she pulls herself together. And it occurred to me that while I could see how some plot threads would be resolved, I really had no idea where the book was headed.

You forget your junior class schedule and where you used to sit and your best friend's home phone number and the lyrics to that song you must have played a million times. As we get to know Naomi and her life, we are allowed to be completely involved, cheering her on, booing the bad decisions, and distressing over all her indecisiveness and learning from it. The story takes place in contemporary Tarrytown, New York, and follows protagonist Naomi Porter after a slip on the stairs leaves her with no memory of the last four years of her life. Shortly after the middle of the movie, Naomi remembered Mirai Hasegawa and how their past relationship was like.
